Widespread throughout the Arctic, the common redpoll (Acanthis flammea) feeds primarily on seeds but supplements its diet with insects during the summer. It’s an energetic little bird whose small size doesn&lsquot stop it from spending winters in frozen forests, but it has been known to venture into southern Canada and the northern United States as well. With their bright red feathers, groups of redpolls chirping and plucking seeds from feeders are a delight for birders to spot.
