American robin by Donald M. Jones
In springtime, this early bird gets the worm; in wintertime it is more likely to snack on berries. The American robin, Turdus migratorius, eats insects and the occasional snail, in addition to its favored earthworms and fruit. This familiar songbird is widely seen as a harbinger of spring, though with the increasing abundance of berry-producing shrubs and trees, it need not always migrate south for winter.
