White-tailed deer by Tom and Pat Leeson
White-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) can be found from southern Canada to Bolivia. Males can weigh up to four hundred pounds and sport antlers that are shed each winter. When the deer are alarmed, they may “flag” or raise their tails, showing the white underside. When a doe runs, her fawns may follow her white tail to safety.
