Slow and easy could be the motto of the sedentary Hoffmann’s two-toed sloth (Choloepus hoffmanni). This nocturnal mammal spends most of its time snoozing—up to twenty hours per day—and even when awake, it is likely to be silent and still, inconspicuous among its favored South American treetops. Whether the mother sloth is quietly munching on foliage or simply hanging around (often upside down), her offspring is along for the ride during its first six to nine months.
