The European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) is the ancestor of all domestic rabbits. Its fur is usually variegated gray with black and brown (and sometimes red). Color, size, and general appearance can vary greatly. European rabbits are native to the Iberian peninsula and small areas of southwestern France and northwestern Africa but can now be found on every continent except Antarctica. They are considered an invasive species, especially in Australia where they have no natural predators.
