Known as the Poet of Shadows, Ugo Mochi (1889–1977) was an Italian artist and sculptor renowned for his mastery of working in silhouette. His intricate silhouettes earned him worldwide recognition, and his works can be found in esteemed art collections around the globe. In 1969, Mochi produced fourteen panels for the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Standing eight feet tall and two feet wide, the panels were each cut from a single piece of paper and depict a variety of scenes from the natural world. The images on these notecards are derived from four of these panels.
