Rosalind Wise: Meadows Boxed Notecards

$16.95

An accomplished painter of gardens and flowers, British artist Rosalind Wise is also intrigued by meadows and other wild spaces where evanescent plant communities follow nature’s lead. She writes of studying and painting a local field that “was left fallow for a few years, so it took on a wild and chaotic quality which I found interesting. It went through many colour and textural changes between April and September and also during the different years. Green and purple in May and in August yellow and white.” Wise’s observant eye and her love of the natural world are clearly evident in the four fresh, vibrant paintings of meadows and fields selected for this notecard assortment. Rosalind Wise

From exquisite portraits of single blooms to her Flower Cycle masterpiece, Rosalind Wise (British, b. 1949) takes inspiration from nature, painting scenes of gardens and meadows, ponds and paths on canvases typically four to five feet across. Her early work focused on small, singular bits of the natural world. These days, Wise says, her response “is to the colour, tone and movement found there. It is to the tip or balance between order and chaos, freedom or restraint, things separate yet mingling together, all part of the expressive whole.” A native of South Wales, Wise now lives in Gloucestershire, painting a reality that exists outside modern life’s constant consumerism. Her goal is to reconnect us with the beauty and magic of existence.
