Gregory L. BlackstockFor Seattle artist Gregory L. Blackstock, who is autistic, the world is made up of countless things needing to be identified, ordered, and arranged—be they beetles, boats, or buildings. Creating art has become his outlet for defining an unpredictable world. Once he chooses a subject, he seeks to record all the variations within that group, to make the artwork “complete.” Blackstock (b. 1946) began drawing regularly in his early forties. Since his first solo art show in 2004 at age 58, his list-like drawings have captivated art lovers worldwide. His work has been shown in Geneva, Paris, New York, Vienna, Philadelphia, Miami, and Seattle. The prestigious Collection de l’Art Brut in Lausanne, Switzerland, holds an impressive assortment of Blackstock’s work in its permanent collection. Having worked menial jobs for almost 40 years, Blackstock is now able to spend all of his time researching and creating his art.
Since March of 2020, my wife and I have averaged one jigsaw puzzle per week. There are 161 eggs in this puzzle, each one almost like a six piece mini puzzle of each. We both agree this is one of our favorites among the hundred or so we’ve completed. Our only fault was that a poster wasn’t included, so it was a challenge for both of us to work at the same time.
