Armin Hansen: The Artful Voyage

$60.00 $30.00 Sale

Published with: the Pasadena Museum of California Art

Armin Carl Hansen (1886–1957) sought to capture the raw power and vitality of the Pacific and those who sailed it. The San Francisco native created lush still lifes, spirited rodeo scenes, and loosely rendered landscapes, but his signature subjects were the people who earned their living at sea. Hansen painted images of Monterey fisherman with bold masses of color and eliminated superfluous detail, yielding dynamic compositions that convey universal themes of physical labor, hardship, danger, bravery, and loss. Armin Hansen: The Artful Voyage is a rich summation of Hansen’s artistic legacy.
