Alexandra Eldridge

Through her artwork, American artist Alexandra Eldridge seeks “the extraordinary in the ordinary.” She works primarily in Venetian plaster, often incorporating found objects, bits of printed text, and parts of photographic images. Her works celebrate natural beauty and creativity, and are layered with symbolism and human-animal imagery. (In her tarot series, a lion-headed creature rides an elephant, and a stag wears the crown of the emperor.) A child of artist-writer parents, and a longtime student of William Blake’s spiritual teachings, she cofounded a “visionary city of the arts” in Ohio before finding her true home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in the mid-1980s. Travel and personal growth are important to Eldridge, who calls her paintings “a soul map of my journey through life.”
