Lush grape vines and roses abundant with thorns climb either side of a Gothic arch in this nineteenth-century French painting. Little is known about the artist of this work, whose finely drafted composition overflows with an impossible collection of flora and fauna. This work is in the collection of the Fitzwilliam Museum at the University of Cambridge.
