Paul Cézanne (French, 1839–1906)
Ginger Jar (Pot de gingembre), c. 1895
Paul Cézanne (French, 1839–1906) was a post-impressionist painter considered to be a pivotal figure in transforming twentieth century art. Both Picasso and Matisse acknowledged his influence on their work, and his distinctive handling of color and light, his geometric forms, and his composition techniques have inspired generations of artists.
This charming still life is from the extraordinary collection assembled by Dr. Albert C. Barnes, who established the Barnes Foundation in 1922 near Philadelphia.
