Pierre-Auguste Renoir (French, 1841–1919)
Luncheon of the Boating Party, 1880–1881
Perhaps Renoir’s most famous painting, Luncheon of the Boating Party is populated with friends of the artist, including the painter Gustave Caillebotte. He is pictured sporting a straw hat and straddling a chair, while gazing across the table at Renoir’s future wife, Aline Charigot.
