Mount Robson, c. 1929
Lawren S. Harris was a founding member of the Group of Seven and a pivotal figure in the history of Canadian art. Schooled in European traditions and filled with national pride, he painted the Canadian landscape with enthusiasm, capturing the majesty of its wilderness. From his iconic representational landscape paintings, Harris later transitioned to abstraction and became a leading abstract artist who believed that color and form were capable of expressing spiritual truths.
