Franklin Carmichael (Canadian, 1890–1945)
October Gold, 1922
Franklin Carmichael interpreted Northern Ontario with a distinctively Canadian sensibility. A founding member of the Group of Seven, Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour, and Canadian Group of Painters, he spent weekends and holidays among the mountains, forests, lakes, and mining towns of the Canadian Shield. After many years of work as a commercial artist, Carmichael became the head of the Commercial and Graphic Art department at the Ontario College of Art.
