The narrative art of Dan May is rich in texture and detail and alive with movement, in no small part due to his elegant, swirling line work. Of it he says, “Creating the flowing lines is somewhat meditative to me. It is an ever-evolving theme in my work…but overall I think that it represents a sense of mystery and evolution. It is a symbol of our ‘journey’ through life.” May’s spellbinding paintings are influenced by nature and life experience, often blending elements of the surreal and childlike with psychological dramas of the adult world.
May began drawing and painting before the age of five, and since studying illustration in college he has explored new techniques, new media, and new worlds, particularly that of the pop surrealist movement. His paintings have been widely exhibited in galleries and museums, including as part of the 2013 Suggestivism show at the Acquario Romano in Rome.
