B. Kliban: CatCards Notecard Folio
Ten 5 x 7 in. blank notecards (5 each of 2 designs) with envelopes in a decorative folio.
The Cats of B. Kliban’s imagination have been delighting children and adults since the publication of Cat in 1975. And why not? The timeless Cat, often wearing signature red tennis shoes, lives in a world of adventure that real cats, and their people, can only dream about.
B. “Hap” Kliban (American, 1935–1990) began drawing and painting when he was a child. He attended Pratt Institute in New York but dropped out to become a beatnik painter in Europe. After a few years in Florence, he returned to the United States and settled in San Francisco, where he began to work seriously on his cartoons. He sold his work to Playboy magazine, which helped establish him as one of America’s top cartoonists. He also sold cartoons to the New Yorker, National Lampoon, Esquire, and Punch.
Kliban pioneered a new genre of single-panel adult cartoons and published several humor books in addition to his Cat creations. His body of work continues to inspire artists today. In this two-image set of CatCards, nature provides a colorful backdrop for curious kitties. Kliban’s offbeat sense of humor mixes with his playful style to create a one-of-a-kind feline fantasy. Immensely popular, Cat has appeared on everything from calendars to coloring books to jigsaw puzzles the world over.
