Product Description
Beauford Delaney Notecard Folio
Beauford Delaney (American, 1901–1979) studied art in Boston before moving in 1929 to New York, where he continued his education at the Art Students League. He associated with the artists at 306 in Harlem and was a member of the Harlem Artists Guild, but he lived and sought community in Greenwich Village among musicians, photographers, and writers, as his interest in the arts extended far beyond the easel.

Delaney’s artistic endeavors evolved from early pastel portraits in Boston to lyrical New York scenes, and, after his relocation to Paris in 1953, to the development of pure abstractions. Three main influences contributed to Delaney’s later style: the techniques of Vincent van Gogh, the palette of the Fauves, and the design principles of Abstract Expressionism.

The images reproduced for this notecard folio feature Delaney’s prowess in pastel and in oil; both are from the later years of his residence in New York. The Michael Rosenfeld Gallery has presented two recent solo exhibitions of Delaney’s work.

Contains 5 each of the following images:
Washington Square, 1948
Central Park, 1950
