Product Description
Annie French Notecard Folio
Annie French (Scottish, 1872–1965) studied under Fra. Newbery and the Belgian symbolist Jean Delville at the Glasgow School of Art. Her delicate, detailed, romantic drawings and watercolors show the influence of the Pre-Raphaelites and Aubrey Beardsley. In turn, French and the other members of the Glasgow Girls—Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh, Bessie MacNicol, and Jessie Marion King, among others—strongly influenced the Art Nouveau and illustrative movements. French illustrated a selection of Heinrich Heine’s poems, designed numerous postcards and greeting cards, and served as tutor in ceramic decoration at the Glasgow School of Art. After her marriage to George Woolliscroft Rhead, she moved to London, where she exhibited frequently at the Royal Academy.

This folio of notecards includes two of French’s works, both from the collection of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, part of the National Galleries of Scotland.

Contains 5 each of the following images:
Princess Melilot, 1941
Cinderella and the Ugly Sisters
