Manuel Bennett (American, b. 1921) has had a long, varied artistic career as a painter, sculptor, designer, and teacher. After studying at a New York arts high school and serving as a cartographer in the US Army, Bennett moved to Mexico in 1951 to continue his artistic training at La Esmeralda, an arts school based in Mexico City. There he studied under such world-renowned artists as Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Dr. Atl, and Francisco Zúñiga.
The four designs ((three of each) featured here are based on Bennett’s original pen-and-ink illustrations of life in the garden. The charming scenes include a fruit orchard, rabbits munching on carrots, a gardener with her potted plants, and a whimsical interpretation of four happy farmers among their plants.
Please note: the images are not printed with ink. The shapes of the illustrations are embossed on high-quality recycled paper.
