As a young girl, American painter Mary Sipp Green drew and painted in the New York studio of her artist father. Her fascination with art, design, and apparel led to a career in fashion design and her own clothing boutique in Greenwich Village. Now immersed in life as a painter, she calls the Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts home but travels the world gathering inspiration for the paintings. Before creating what she refers to as “landscapes with a personal vision,” Green jots down notes and makes in situ sketches. Later, in her studio, sense and memory combine in a serene fusion of perception and representation. By eliminating extraneous detail, using many layers of paint, and often focusing on the ethereal moments of dawn and dusk, Green paints luminous scenes that result in an atmospheric convergence of light and color.
