Adapted from Stylized Daisies—Purple, Green and Yellow fabric design, 1916–1920, by Charles Rennie Mackintosh
After Charles Rennie Mackintosh (Scottish,1868–1928) experienced a series of professional disappointments, he left Glasgow and eventually settled in London. There he began creating designs for fine fabrics, many of which he sold to Foxton’s and Sefton’s, at the time England’s two leading textile producers. Having proved himself a master at designing modern buildings enriched with curves, organic geometry, and repeated motifs, Mackintosh applied those visual themes to two-dimensional design.
