Artist Beth Van Hoesen (1926–2010) was born in Boise, Idaho. After graduating from Stanford University she studied at San Francisco Art Institute with figurative painter David Park, who inspired her to pursue the expressive realism she employed in animal studies such as Marvin C. An acknowledged master of printmaking techniques, Van Hoesen exhibited worldwide and is represented in the collections of many major museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Portland Art Museum, Oregon; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
