Curated by the Pomegranate staff, what’s new and recommended . . . just for you! Charley Harper’s Sticky Critters Animal Sticker Kit (AA746) is a great gift idea for my friends' kids, and I actually have fun putting the animals together too! —Karma, customer service I've been looking forward to Kathy DeZarn Beynette's 2013 Wall Calendar (G439) for quite some time! I never tire of Kathy's bright, witty paintings; something about them always draws me in and lifts my spirits. Maybe it's her empathy for creatures (including human ones), which, come to think of it, shines especially brightly in her lovely new book, When Your Porcupine Feels Prickly (A214). —Pat, editorial I love old games and especially the design of this one—Round the World with Nellie Bly: A 300-Piece Jigsaw Puzzle Game (AA741). —Gina, design Edgar Payne: The Scenic Journey (A203): In looking at this art book, it took me awhile to appreciate that I was seeing something rather extraordinary . . . I kept looking, and something special began to make itself plain. “Magical” begins to describe it, but the quality of these works is really beyond words. —Paul, shipping I have just given our 500-piece Garden Border Jigsaw Puzzle (AA739) to a friend who recently had a brain injury; her doctor told her that putting together puzzles would help with her recovery. Rosalind Wise's painting of inula, orach, and cranesbill in full bloom will delight this friend, as she loves flowers. —Rachel, editorial I love the Eyvind Earle: Landscapes 2013 Wall Calendar (G446). The rich colors of the California landscapes are bright and beautiful. I can’t wait to hang it in my office. —Kristen, customer service Arts for Transit: New York City Subway Boxed Card Assortment (0379) brings back wonderful memories of my childhood trips to Coney Island—sun and surf during the day; hot dogs, funnel cake, and carnival rides at night. All of the cards in this set capture the excitement and fun of summer trips with family and friends. —Monica, production Arts for Transit: New York City Subway Boxed Card Assortment (0379) makes me want to write a letter to someone—or use one as a fun birthday card (there's also one design that would be great for Easter, and one for Halloween too). The size is unusual—each card is 3 panels but folds to the standard 5 x 7 inches—and the artwork is so fun, colorful, and summery. I especially love the card featured on the front of the box. Yes, for sure a lucky friend will be receiving one soon! —Ronni, design I pick tomatoes! Lettuce, apples, pumpkins, chives, and watermelons! You'll pick them too once you've absorbed the lessons in The Kitchen Garden (K305), a Knowledge Card deck that serves as a splendid introduction to the fine art of growing fruits and vegetables and herbs. —Sam, editorial With the sunny season at its peak in North America, it's the perfect time for cool movie theaters and hot summer flings. To put you in the mood for either, check out Swept Away: A Quiz Deck of Romantic Movies (K363). It's full of fun facts on all your favorite flirty flicks! (The author is known to be a hopeless romantic!) —Don Root, editorial (and the author of Swept Away) Escher Mosaic and Symmetry Drawing Lined Magnetic Journal (AA722): I love looking at this Escher design myself, and would consider it as a gift for anyone. Many journals are more feminine; this one could be for a male friend. Its magnetic closure with penholder make it perfect for traveling—you can easily tuck it into a bag or purse. —Patrice, design I recently visited Chicago and was delighted to see the installation of Louis Sullivan’s Chicago Stock Exchange Trading Room at the Art Institute of Chicago. You’ll find this and all of Sullivan’s most revered designs in Louis Sullivan: Creating a New American Architecture (A192)—a gorgeous book filled to the brim with photographs that celebrate Sullivan’s genius. There’s a reason Frank Lloyd Wright referred to Sullivan as his “lieber Meister,” or “beloved master.” —Stephanie K., production Jonathan Green’s luscious paintings, depicting gently wind-swept sand dunes, ocean surf, and grassy meadows, together with women in lovely dresses and wide sunbonnets, represent, to me, the quintessential summer pastimes. Pomegranate offers a beautiful variety of these images in several different product formats (including Deluxe Address Book: AA111; Notecard Folio: 0824; Coloring Book: CB102; Thank You Notes: 0286). —Lory, contracts & royalties Rosalind Wise’s Flower Cycle is the perfect summer image (Notecard Folio: 0968; Jigsaw Puzzle: AA742). The diverse range of flowers and colors will draw you in—there is every color in the rainbow in the painting, and it works beautifully. Must-haves for any season, but especially now. —Josh, sales I love the vibrant colors of Rosalind Wise: Flower Cycle Jigsaw Puzzle (AA742). If only my garden looked just like that! —Helena, customer service | |||||
