Scenes from the great Hindu and Muslim stories, as well as the lives of members of the elite, inspired artists of the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries to create these twelve Indian miniatures. The themes are wealth, grandeur, love, leisure, and societal rank.
