Ornamental Arts from Around the World Coloring Book
Pomegranate’s Ornamental Arts from Around the World coloring book features 22 designs from around the world. Coloring pages are blank on the back so they can be cut out and displayed. Click on the small picture to see an interior page.

Around the world throughout human history, people have decorated their clothing, furniture, pottery, living spaces, and bodies with distinctive designs. Ornamental art has been made in many media: carved into stone, clay, and wood; woven into cloth and baskets; painted on tiles and pottery; formed out of precious metals; and tattooed on skin. Because each culture has developed a unique decorative style, we usually can identify who made which art.

Most motifs for ornamental art come from geometry or nature. Some ornaments—such as those in the Navajo rug pattern in this book—are abstract shapes; others—for example, those in the French tapestry design—represent flowers, plants, and occasionally people. Sometimes the two types of ornaments appear in the same piece of art.

The 22 design motifs in this coloring book are from cultures from around the world. When you color them in, you might use the original colors—shown in the small images on the inside front and back covers—or you might choose different ones. On the blank page at the back of the book, you can draw and color an ornament of your own.
