Edgar Payne: Brittany Harbor 1,000-piece Jigsaw Puzzle
, c. 1924, by Edgar Payne
Oil on canvas, 28 x 34 in.
During Edgar Alwin Payne’s European travels in the early 1920s, the fishing boats on the shores of Brittany captivated the California Artist. In his fascination, Payne took photographs and made drawings, sketches, and complete studies—he even constructed wooden models upon his return to the United States—and his paintings reflect this close attention to the boats' many intricacies. Payne (1883–1947) was also particularly skilled in composition, and paintings such as Brittany Harbor
show a newfound sophistication in guiding the viewer through his works, deciding where one’s attention should linger over the angles, reflections, and forms.
Thoughtfully conceived and engagingly intricate, our 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzles combine superb color reproduction, stunning and unusual images, and sturdy construction to delight generations of novice and veteran puzzleworkers.
