Product Description
George Henry Notecard Folio
George Henry (Scottish, 1858–1943) was a prominent member of the Glasgow Boys, a group of about twenty young artists who were born or worked mainly in Scotland during the late nineteenth century. Although they embraced a variety of styles, they shared an aesthetic that opposed contemporary conventions of subject, style, and finish; their enthusiasm was for the real, the natural, and the uncontrived. The Glasgow Boys revolutionized Scottish art and garnered international acclaim with their fresh, dynamic approach.

Well known for his landscapes, Henry was a member of the Royal Scottish Academy and an associate of the Royal Academy. He attended the Glasgow School of Art and studied privately with William Macgregor; later in his career he traveled to Japan with Edward Atkinson Hornel, with whom he collaborated on decorative works such as The Druids—Bringing in the Mistletoe and The Star in the East. The two paintings reproduced in this notecard collection, Playmates and Noon, exemplify Henry’s skill and sensitivity in portraiture and nature studies.

Contains five each of the following notecards:
Playmates, 1884
Noon, 1885.
