Charles Rennie Mackintosh: Bouquets Notecard Folio

Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868–1928), probably best known as Scotland’s finest architect, won international acclaim for his furniture and textile designs as well. He was the leading artist of the Glasgow Style, which was related to the Art Nouveau style and was marked by its stylized organic forms. In 1914 Mackintosh left Glasgow for Walberswick in England, where he worked on a series of exquisite flower studies. The following year he settled in London, where he produced some remarkably progressive textile designs and a series of vibrant floral still-life watercolors over the next several years. The two textile designs of floral bouquets represented here are from his London period.

These two Mackintosh images are from the Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, Scotland’s oldest public museum and holder of the world’s largest collection of works by the artist.
