| Estella Canziani Boxed NotecardsProduct DescriptionBorn in London to an English mother—painter Laura Starr—and an Italian civil engineer father, Estella Louisa Michaela Canziani (1887–1964) began her artistic career as a student at the Copernicus, a Kensington school run by Sir Arthur Cope, and later at the Royal Academy. A painter of portraits and landscapes, as well as an illustrator, decorator, and writer, Canziani traveled and exhibited her paintings throughout Europe. In addition to painting, she published three books on her travels, which gained her admittance to the Royal Geographical Society. The four paintings in this notecard assortment are from a group of small tempera paintings made by the artist during her travels to the remote villages of the Savoy region of Europe—an area that today is split between France and Italy. From the collection of the Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery, Canziani’s images provide valuable documentary information on the clothes and lifestyle of the local people around the turn of the twentieth century. Contains five each of the following notecards:
