| Amos Ferguson Boxed NotecardsProduct DescriptionBahamian artist Amos Ferguson (b. 1920) didn’t begin to paint seriously until he was in his forties. A deeply religious man, Ferguson initially did not sell his paintings, considering them to be works to honor God rather than articles for public consumption. But his artwork proved too popular to remain undiscovered. Ferguson’s scenes of Bahamian life and customs, made with ordinary house paint, soon came to the attention of collectors and curators in the United States. International acclaim followed after a 1985 world-traveling solo exhibition. The four Ferguson paintings reproduced in this notecard assortment—each accompanied by a brief statement about the work by the artist—are all from the collection of the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Home to the world’s largest collection of folk art—more than 135,000 works in a wide range of media—the Museum strives to enrich the human spirit by connecting people with the arts, traditions, and cultures of the world. | |||||
