Product Description

One of Canada’s most influential landscape artists, Takao Tanabe interprets his country’s prairies, hills, coasts, and skies with a subtlety, elegance, and depth that transcend classification within any school of art. Born in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, in 1926, Tanabe studied art in Winnipeg, New York, London, and Tokyo, and for a decade he served as head of the art program and artist in residence at The Banff Centre. A member of the Order of Canada and the Order of British Columbia, he holds two honorary doctorates and received the Governor General’s Award in the Visual Media Arts. His works are in private and public collections worldwide, including those of the National Gallery of Canada, the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, and the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto.
